Congratulations to Café Fuerte and Dolman / Rossy / Jobin, the 2023 Jazz Creation Grant recipients!

In 2022, João Lenhari, Erivan Duarte, Carlos Feitosa and Santiago Ferrer formed the quartet Café Fuerte, which features Brazilian and Colombian music. They blend Afro-Latin rhythms, experimental music and modern North American jazz. The grant will allow the collective to record an album of eight new compositions.

Formed in 2019 by drummer, composer and lyricist Aaron Dolman and singers Sarah Rossy and Eugénie Jobin, Dolman / Rossy / Jobin is an experimental trio based in Montréal. They draw inspiration from many musical traditions, including jazz, free improvisation, chamber music, minimalism, avant-garde and North American folk music. This grant will allow the collective to create and rehearse 10 new original compositions.

About the Jazz Creation Grants

Through a private donation, the Conseil provides two $5,000 grants each year to an artist, artists’ collective or arts organization for an upcoming artistic project. One of the scholarships is awarded to an emerging artist. CD recording projects may also receive a maximum of 32 hours of recording and mixing time at Studio Crawford.
