In the eyes of its residents, Montréal’s vibrant cultural scene is what really sets the city apart. For 69 % of the population, the city is first and foremost a multicultural hub of art, culture and festivals. Even more telling, two out of every five Montrealers chose to live here because of that artistic energy. That deep-seated attachment comes with a collective responsibility.
In October 2025, the efforts of civil society leaders succeeded in making arts and culture a priority, leading to concrete commitments from the city. They included increased funding for the CAM starting in 2026, with a pledge to hit $30 million by 2028. This was a real victory for the arts community that we achieved together.
Building on this momentum, the 2026–2030 strategic plan, For the Arts, For the World, drew on a broad consultation to identify ways to support an industry at a turning point, espousing a vision perfectly aligned with the community’s needs. Let’s work together to keep that momentum going, support arts and culture, and make cultural vitality a solid foundation for what it means to live in Montréal.

The Conseil has continued to take action to spur mobilization and transformation in a context that demanded resilience. Experiencing significant tension between the needs on the ground and the constraints put upon us, we kept our eyes on a clear priority: to preserve the ecosystem’s stability and honour our commitments to arts organizations.
This challenging environment closes out a strategic cycle that has seen the CAM make substantial progress, particularly in equity, philanthropy and operating support. Beyond the numbers, people remain our central focus, backed by an administration and a team committed to defending the vital role of artists in our society.
2025 highlights
Conclusion of the 2022-2025 strategic cycle
During a particularly intense period, the CAM showed that it is an engine of mobilization and transformation for the city and the artists who call it home. As we take stock of our accomplishments, there’s no shortage of results: equity targets surpassed, a historic peak in philanthropy reached, tools updated and commitments fulfilled, particularly in regard to environmental responsibility and our local presence.
