Nos indispensables

Our artists… essential? More than ever! The Conseil des arts de Montréal is proud to announce the finalists of Nos indispensables (Our essential artists), an event that will pay tribute to the incredible generosity and achievements of creators who stood out in the 2020 artistic year. During this brand-new event, which will take place on June 22, 2021, grants of $10,000 will be awarded to winning organizations and $3,000 to finalists.

Nos indispensables de la bienveillance
 (Audience Award – Goodwill Award)Like a balm for the soul, art became a source of comfort and hope for many during this unsettling period. Meet the Nos indispensables de la bienveillance (Audience Award – Goodwill Award) finalists who made it their mission to help people get through the pandemic via gestures, large and small, which made a difference in their daily lives.The public is invited to vote for their favourite initiative among these eight finalists in the Prix du public (Audience Award) category. Each voter has a chance of winning $500 worth of cultural offerings from over 600 Montréal arts organizations.
Nos indispensables de l’équité
(Equity Award)It is impossible to talk about 2020 without mentioning the major social movements that occurred. For many artists, silence was no longer an option. They had to listen, challenge the established order, act and change the rules of the game.Here are the Nos indispensables de l’équité (Equity Award) finalists who demonstrated commitment and leadership in bringing change and social justice.
Nos indispensables de l’innovation
(Innovation Award)As always, artists innovated in 2020. Despite the circumstances, they showed incredibly agility in expressing their creativity and imagined new practices, easily overcoming the challenges of adaptation and relevance.These are the Nos indispensables de l’innovation (Innovation Award) finalists who launched a myriad of innovative initiatives and truly inspiring new creations that are likely to become a lasting part of our cultural landscape.

(Community Spirit Award)Artists have always had a special relationship with the public. In 2020, these two groups formed new relationships throughout Montréal. New scenes were imagined, connecting with the public like never before.Below are the Nos indispensables de la proximité (Community Spirit Award) finalists who occupied original creative spaces while redefining relationships with the public.

(Solidarity Award)2020 was a challenging year that significantly impacted our artists. Luckily, the arts community quickly pulled together. Many organizations have reimagined how they listen, support, and share information and resources.Here are the Nos indispensables de la solidarité (Solidarity Award) finalists who made unprecedented efforts to help each other serve their communities.

Join host Pierre-Yves Lord and the entire arts community on June 22 from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. to unveil the winners and celebrate the inspiring initiatives of artists, collectives and organizations that have been giving us hope throughout this pandemic.
