The Conseil announced today that Executive Director Nathalie Maillé will be stepping down at the end of 2026, following a mandate marked by a decisive contribution to strengthening and expanding Montréal’s arts ecosystem.
“The Conseil would like to highlight Nathalie Maillé’s remarkable commitment over her 13 years as the Conseil’s Executive Director and the nearly 30 years she has devoted to the organization. Her collaborative leadership, in-depth knowledge of cultural issues and ability to bring partners from the artistic, institutional and economic communities together have strengthened the Conseil’s long-term role. This transition is part of a thoughtful and structured approach fully embraced by the Conseil in a context of organizational and financial stability,” said Mathieu Bouchard, Chair.
As the Conseil’s Executive Director since 2013, Nathalie Maillé has supported the organization through a period of significant transformation, marked by greater support for artists and organizations, a clear commitment to diversity and equity, the establishment of structuring partnerships and the recognition of the Conseil as a key contributor to Montréal’s artistic vitality. During her mandate, the Conseil’s budget nearly doubled, with the Agglomération de Montréal’s contribution increasing from $12.5 million in 2013 to $24.4 million in 2026.
“As the Board begins to implement its new 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, I hope that this transition will proceed harmoniously and responsibly. Since my very first day at the Conseil in 1998, I have been dedicated to defending and promoting artists with unwavering passion and determination. As we celebrate the Conseil’s 70th anniversary this year, I remain fully committed to ensuring business continuity and supporting the organization as it takes this next step,” said Nathalie Maillé.
This announcement comes as the Conseil launches its 2026–2030 strategic plan, Pour les arts, pour le monde, building on strong strategic, operational and financial foundations. The Martinez Ferrada administration has committed to providing the Conseil with an annual budget of $30 million by 2028, with an additional $2.5 million already paid in 2026, strengthening the Conseil’s ability to pursue its mission for the benefit of the creative heart and the people of Montréal.
In the coming weeks, the Conseil’s governance committee will begin a thorough, fair and transparent recruitment process to appoint the next Executive Director, with support from the firm Phelps.
Nathalie Maillé will remain in her role until the end of December 2026. She will continue to perform all her duties to ensure the continuity of the Conseil’s activities alongside the existing leadership team.
