The Conseil des arts de Montréal and its partners are pleased to unveil the four art projects chosen for the sixth edition of the Des ponts culturels, d’une rive à l’autre program. The selected works are distinguished by their originality and inclusive character and will bring together artists and citizens from Laval, Longueuil and Terrebonne as well as the municipalities of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM.
Each organization and artists’ collective will receive a maximum grant of $20,000 to carry out their projects with local residents, who will supply their own creativity and imagination.
The 2020-2021 Recipients
The duo of visual artists Sandrine Côté and Tanha Gomes will present Une pensée pour toi, an artistic installation in the form of sound-emitting lanterns consisting of photos and audio excerpts. Exhibited in public locations around Longueuil, their work is the culmination of creative dialogue and correspondence between a group of newly arrived young people and Longueuil seniors.
Théâtre I.N.K. will present its creation Duos en vitrines, inspired by the many people who have been forced to visit their loved ones through acrylic shields, windows and other transparent materials that have prevented any closeness for so many months. The lack of proximity that these obstacles create is the starting point for this project, which features pairs of lovers in various locations in Laval and Longueuil.
The performing arts organization Le Pictographe will present Au fil de l’esquisse, a story in images drawn by teens living in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM. A little like an old-fashioned game of Consequences, the participants will create a group fresco to be printed on panels and installed along an immersive path, inviting spectators to walk through the story.
The musical group Ensemble Caprice will perform Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse… à Terrebonne!, a contemporary version of the comic opera presented outdoors at Île-des-Moulins. Through dance and theatre workshops put on by Les Jardins Chorégraphiques, the region’s residents will have a chance to take part in this artistic creation designed for a wide audience that crosses generations.
