Retrouvailles créatives : dévoilement des projets sélectionnés

The Orchestre Métropolitain and the Conseil des arts de Montréal is thrilled to announce the three selected artistic projects for the Creative Encounters program. This initiative aims to foster the presence of artists in communities, to promote local diffusion of the arts and to increase networking opportunities between cultural, educational and local communities.

Mamie Remix (Granny Remix) by Berceurs du temps

Mamie Remix (Granny Remix) uses poetry and music to inspire intergenerational dialogues. In this project, seniors and teenagers will co-create original rap music. Secondary students will use old love poems written by the older participants into a sweet rap song. The students will be divided into three creative groups—writers, composers and performers—to record their hip hop-inspired musical numbers. They will have the chance to be mentored by Quebec-based rappers, OM musicians and two teachers.

Illustrer la musique (Illustrating Music) by Laurence Dauphinais

In this project, elementary school students will create spontaneous, abstract drawings inspired by the sounds and rhythms of one of the OM’s musical performances. With the support of artist Laurence Dauphinais, participants will use art to represent their impressions of the music they’re listening to. OM musicians will be on hand to play a few short excerpts. Students will be guided with questions like: How does this make you feel? What does this bring to mind? Does the music have a colour? Texture? Does it feel long or short, blue or red? After the exercise is complete, the students’ artworks will be compiled in a short video set to music by the artist.

Concerto Poético by Debout: Actes de parole

Concerto Poético is a series of four musical poetry-writing workshops for aspiring poets from different backgrounds. Participants will be asked to write about how memory interacts with the senses, with a focus on the role of music. They will take part in active and guided listening, work on translating music into poetry, use musical terminology in poetry and more. Two poets and outreach workers, Marie-Hélène Chaussé and Marie-Paule Grimaldi, will guide participants through this creative group workshop at their own pace, and OM musicians will perform. At the end of the four sessions, the participants’ creative journeys will come together to form a creative work.
