Caroline Robert, lauréate de la Résidence de création au Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan!

Caroline Robert wins the Creation Residency at the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan with the project Odyssée d’une météorite

Caroline Robert is a multidisciplinary artist known for her highly attuned, timeless works that combine hand-made craft with technology. Intrigued by science and glimpses of beauty in everyday life, Robert wears many different hats, depending on the project: production, screenwriting, animation, illustration, mise-en-scène, set construction, artistic direction, interactivity, and more. Her creations explore many forms and frequently mix genres.

The project will be to make a dramatic short told from the perspective of a meteorite, recounting the odyssey that brought it to Earth: Odyssée d’une météorite [A Meteorite’s Odyssey]. Meteorites are miniature time capsules. Robert finds them fascinating, as carriers of both their own history and the keys to unlock the universe’s mysteries.

Metoerites hold a special place in the collective imagination, and if we listen to what they have to say they can enchant us. The artist will work in tandem with the Planétarium team in turning concrete matter into story. The animated dramatic short will be part scientific reconstruction, part documentary portrait.

The residency will take place beetween December 7, 2022 and June 21, 2023. The artist will receive, amongst others, a grant of $13,000 for living and research-creation-production expenses, an access to several workspace with the Planétarium team including an exhibition space in the Planétarium building.
