Quand l'art prend l'air de retour pour une deuxième édition avec un budget bonifié totalisant 1 M$ 2

Professional artists, organizations and artist collectives from the Island of Montréal are invited to present spontaneous performance projects across the island to launch the second Art Out in the Open program.

The aim of this initiative is to support the presentation of autonomous and self-produced artworks in non-traditional urban spaces between June 24 and December 31, 2021, in the heart of the communities where people live.

An increased budget and greater artistic benefits

With a budget of $1 million—almost a 50% increase over last year—this year’s Art Out in the Open program will benefit a greater number of professional artists, organizations and artist collectives. Successful applicants will have the chance to showcase their work across the Island of Montréal.

“In 2020, artists came forward with unprecedented enthusiasm, submitting more than 332 proposals. The increase in program funds offers as many artists as possible the chance to present their work in respectable conditions despite the health crisis of the past year, said Nathalie Maillé, Executive Director of the Conseil des arts de Montréal. The Conseil has a duty to meet the needs of the community and promote the artistic vitality that is so valuable to all Montrealers.”

Special collaborators for greater reach

Art Out in the Open is now offered through a collaboration with Montréal’s Accès Culture network and the Association des diffuseurs culturels de l’Île de Montréal (ADICIM). These partnerships facilitate project dissemination and logistics to generate even more cultural buzz across the island’s diverse private and public spaces. Projects will be matched with up to three non-traditional presentation spaces selected by municipal presenters. These spontaneous performances could take place in a public or private outdoor space such as a balcony, rooftop, store window, public market, park or alley.

Professional artists, organizations and artist collectives from Montréal are invited to submit projects until April 22, 2021.
