Wednesday, September 17, 2025 — The Conseil des arts de Montréal is delighted to welcome the exhibition À la porte du caravansérail (At the Door of the Caravanserai) by artist Soroush Aram, curated by Tamar Tembeck. On display until October 25, 2025, the exhibition will open tonight at 5 p.m. with a reception open to all.

In Persian culture, the caravanserai (karvansaray) is a temporary shelter in the middle of the desert — a metaphor for life according to Hafez of Shiraz, the great 14th-century mystical poet.

Soroush Aram’s drawings, inspired by his poems, explore impermanence, the complexity of the world, and freedom of interpretation. Living with ADHD, the artist describes a mind that works very quickly and is often scattered. This inner restlessness fuels a need for detail in his works, but can also become overwhelming.

Hafez’s poetry helps him slow down and contemplate. For him, it is an inner compass—a guide, a companion, a source of silence and balance.

We invite you to enter this space as you would a caravanserai: to pause, dream, and discover what your own eyes find there.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on certain holidays. Admission is free.
