Montreal, November 27, 2025 — The Conseil des arts de Montréal announces a three-year agreement to support the recognition of women artists in theater. From 2026 to 2028, a total investment of $75,000 will be allocated to the Jovette Marchessault Award. This support will be distributed at a rate of $25,000 per year, including a $20,000 grant to reward the excellence of each winner’s work.
Created in partnership with Espace Go, this award celebrates artistic approaches that advance theatrical practice and contribute to Montreal’s cultural vitality. Each edition highlights a different artistic role—directors, designers, writers—to reveal the diversity of roles that shape our stage.
For the 2025-2026 edition, the spotlight is on directors: creators whose vision and mastery of the stage transform the encounter between the work and the audience. The call for nominations is open today.
