For over eight years now, the publishing house Le Quartanier has been doing amazing work in Montreal’s literary sector. Take a quick look at one of their magnificent works, you won’t be disappointed.
Two books stand out for me: Parents et amis sont invités à y assister, by Hervé Bouchard (Grand Prix du Livre de Montréal 2006) and Matamore n°29, by Alain Farah (2008). In the latter novel, we follow the trials and tribulations of agent Joseph Mariage, "sent on a sentimental mission," who comes across a tall, blonde Polish woman, JFK (whom he assassinates a second time), his Phoenician ancestors and the enemy within... Striking proof that adventurous writing is far from dead in Montreal.
Lastly, this remarkable quote, in the novel, from French poet Robert Filliou: "Art is what makes life more interesting than art."
It’s more than a quote, it’s a way of seeing the world. My way of seeing the world.
