Cultural diversity in visual arts award

Application deadline: September 30, 2019

This award, which comes with a $10,000 prize, is offered to an artist from a cultural community or who is part of a visible minority over the age of 40 who has practised professionally in Quebec for more than five years. The artist must have previously exhibited or participated in exhibitions in his or her country of origin, in Quebec or outside Quebec. The award salutes a visual arts approach or production presented in Montreal during 2018-2019 in the following media: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, etching, mixed media.

With this initiative, the Conseil des arts de Montréal is underscoring the importance of the inclusion of cultural diversity, which is essential to ensure that all artists have equal access to resources and the same opportunities to gain recognition, develop their art and fully contribute to society.

The diversity in visual arts award recognizes primarily the quality and distinctive nature of the artistic production and the exemplarity of the contribution to the arts scene.

This award is made possible through an association between the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the City of Montreal’s Service de la culture in collaboration avec the Association des galeries d’art contemporain (AGAC).
