Jovette-Marchessault Award for Women Theatre Artists

Deadline: January 25, 2021

Artistic discipline: Theatre

The Conseil des arts de Montréal, in partnership with Théâtre ESPACE GO and in collaboration with Théâtre de l’Affamée, Imago Theatre and the Femmes pour l’Équité en Théâtre movement, is pleased to announce the creation of the Jovette Marchessault Award recognizing the outstanding work of women in theatre to help increase their visibility.

This award addresses one of the recommendations made by the theatre community at the 2019 “Chantier féministe” event organized by ESPACE GO. Accompanied by a $20,000 cash prize, the annual Jovette Marchessault Award will be presented on a three-year rotation to women occupying different artistic roles in theatre.

The 2020-2021 competition is for women theatre designers (costumes, sets, make-up, wigs, hairstyles, puppets, masks, props, lighting, sound, video). The 2021-2022 competition will be for women playwrights (for original works or artistic adaptations only), and the 2022-2023 competition will be for women theatre directors.
