Congratulations to the 2020 recipients of Ponts culturels, d'une rive à l'autre: Marie-Denise Douyon, Julien Boisvert, berceurs du temps et le Patin Libre

The arts projects selected for the 2020–2021 Ponts culturels, d’une rive à l’autre grants are bold and distinctive. For the program’s 5th edition, artists, collectives, and organizations were asked to submit proposals that, through artistic expression and building bridges with citizens and the general public, question identity and how we live together.

De l’art sur l’feu: du proverbe à la création by Marie-Denise Douyon
This project involves artistic contributions from citizens in five municipalities of MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges to create an installation made of pots, pans, and other recovered items. Proverbs will be used as a source of inspiration, dialogue, and reconciliation, nourishing the creative process and culminating in the civic work and a video clip for a short documentary. Partner cities for this project are Île-Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l’île Perrot, Pincourt, Vaudreuil-Dorion, and Terrasse-Vaudreuil.

Une improbable campagne de démystification by Julien Boisvert
In a playful twist on conventional awareness campaigns, Montréal artist Julien Boisvert is asking high school students from Montréal’s Park Ex neighbourhood and from Saint-Polycarpe in MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges to create an awareness campaign against the stereotypes associated with “pure-laine” Quebecers. Assisted by four other artists and two multimedia teachers, Boisvert is provoking an encounter in which urban and rural residents explore each other’s realities in a quirky, lively setting.

Au fil du temps by Berceurs du temps
The Montréal collective Berceurs du temps is inviting 15 Laval citizens of all ages to reflect on the future of their communities by participating in an installation that makes use of cyanotope, an artisanal photographic process in which images appear after exposure to sunlight. With guidance from artist and cultural mediator Tanha Gomes, participants will share their works in public and discuss a shared vision of the territory with passers-by.

Contemporary ice skating in schools
The Montréal contemporary ice skating company Le Patin Libre will glide students from St-Mary’s Elementary School in Longueuil into their creative universe. Students will take in a work by the company to build awareness of contemporary performing arts. They will also create and perform in eight short choreographed works on ice.
