Jazz Creation Grants: two artistic projects worth watching for

The two winners of the 2019 Jazz Creation Grants, Apocalypse 8 and Innovations en concert, will soon be bringing new works to the public! The panel of judges was particularly impressed by the originality of their proposed projects and each has been awarded a $5,000 grant, made possible by a private donor.

The collective Apocalypse 8, under the artistic direction of Aurélien Tomasi, will produce a recording in tribute to saxophonist Thomas Chapin featuring unpublished compositions. Some of the Apocalypse 8 musicians will be playing at Café Résonance on October 10 during the Montreal OFF Jazz Festival.

The other winner, arts organization Innovations en concert, will be fine tuning its project, Divine Feminine!, a work by composer Liberté-Anne Lymberiou. The 20-minute piece will be written for 20 musicians, a vocal quartet and two percussionists. The project will be presented as part of Innovations en concert’s next season, in spring 2020.
