The Le Conseil des arts de Montréal unveils its 2018-2020 Strategic Plan

Greetings to everyone,

For more than a year now, we have been talking to you about the Conseil des arts de Montréal's strategic planning. Following several work sessions with our committees, we wanted to ask for your input on the key areas we identified. More than one hundred of you took part in our consultation activities over the summer. Representatives from the various professional associations weighed in on our plan, which took into account the City of Montreal's new cultural policy.

The Conseil's entire team also took part in work sessions to incorporate your feedback. It was the final stage in a transparent, demanding and incredibly stimulating process.

Our strategic plan, Maximize the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s Impact for Professional Artistic Excellence in Montreal, was adopted on September 13. The Conseil hopes to continue to play a leveraging role in Montreal and maintain its close ties to professional arts organizations and collectives, which are at the heart of what we do. We hope to reach out to artists, to welcome them in large numbers at the Maison du Conseil des arts de Montréal's affordable studio spaces and to formalize our identification and support services.

The following are our strategic priorities for the coming years:

1. Inclusion to support equity and representativeness
After more than ten years of defending cultural diversity in the arts, the Conseil would like to adopt an inclusive approach that will consider the needs of artists in under-represented groups. Indigenous and anglophone artists, emerging talent, as well as artists from cultural communities all contribute immensely to Montreal’s artistic vitality. We would like to encourage the excellent work being created by this mosaic of professional artists.

2. Outreach to support the presence of local artists working here and overseas
For the past 35 years, the Conseil des arts de Montréal touring program has presented the work of hundreds of artists to Montrealers. We would like to expand and promote the artistic events coming from local communities that punctuate the life of our city. Likewise we hope to facilitate the participation of arts organizations in Montreal in financial, commercial or cultural projects overseas. We also aim to strengthen ties between the fields of arts and education.

3. A culture of innovation to identify new practices
As a supporter of innovative practices, the Conseil recognizes the importance of staying abreast of new ways of working in the arts world. Furthermore, we want to show the extent to which art plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day lives of Montrealers.

Please take the time to read the documents outlining all of the actions we have planned until 2020:
