Théâtre Le Clou celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014!

Cinéma Excentris

3536, boulevard St-Laurent

One of the rare sites devoted to independent films, Cinéma Excentris offers an exceptional program, most of the works in their original versions with French subtitles. Outside the festival circuit, it is the ideal place to discover non-commercial cinema. I’ve discovered some outstanding filmmakers there, as well as some truly startling films. It is administered by Cinéma Parallèle, where over thirty years ago I would go to discover auteur films in its tiny theatre a bit further up on Saint Lawrence Boulevard. I now got to ExCentris with eyes closed, such is my confidence in the quality of their programming.

5454, avenue de Gaspé, Montréal

When I need to change my perspective on the world or my existence, I like to  wander through these art centres, where ideas and images flow so freely. Several organizations and collectives working in visual and/or media arts have moved into this former factory in the heart of Mile End: Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK (gallery and studio); Diagonale, centre des arts et des fibres du Québec; L’Atelier Circulaire, OPTICA – A Centre for Contemporay Art; Dazibao, devoted to contemporary image practices; and Occurrence, espace d'art et d'essai contemporains. The perfect place to readjust our aim and broaden our horizons.
