- be recognized as a professional organization;
- be incorporated as a non-profit organization for at least one year;
- have its headquarters in the City of Montreal and present artistic activities on a regular basis;
- have as its principal mission the creation, production, and presentation of arts activities.
A professional organization must have a recognized level of competence and be able to demonstrate its professionalism; that is to say, be directed by qualified individuals, present activities whose artistic quality is acknowledged by the arts community, and bring together, represent, or employ professional artists.
A professional artist is one who has received professional training, has completed studies or apprenticeships in an artistic discipline, is dedicated mainly to the practice of his or her art, takes part regularly in public performances or events, is recognized by his or her peers, and is paid for his or her artistic activities.
The organization must also have the appropriate human resources and administrative structures in place to ensure a continuous and rigorous follow-up during the entire duration of the tour.
While they may meet these general criteria, certain organizations are not eligible. Among these are public and parapublic government agencies and municipal corporations.
Individual artists may not apply for this touring program.
Performing Arts
Le Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée - Performing Arts gives priority to professional organizations in dance, music, theatre, and circus which are already subsidized by the Conseil des arts de Montréal. The shows or concerts proposed by the organizations must have already been created, have received a favourable response from critics and public alike, and be of definite interest to the various audiences targeted by the Island of Montreal's municipalities.

Visual Arts
Le Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée - Visual Arts gives priority to museums, exhibition centres and other organizations subsidized by the Conseil des arts and that are dedicated to the visual arts, design, architecture, fine crafts, and media arts (installations) and whose productions are acknowledged for their excellence by the arts sector and public alike.
The uniqueness of a project can also enable an organization working in disciplines other than the visual arts, or an organization not subsidized by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, to apply for this touring program. However, these organizations must meet the eligibility criteria.
This program supports individual exhibitions or theme-based projects which group together several artists. Priority will be given to projects that have already been presented at a recognized, professional venue (gallery, artist-run centre, etc) or during an event. The submitted projects must have been favourably received by both critics and the public and be of definite interest to the various audiences targeted by the Island of Montreal's municipalities. Furthermore, to attract the attention of various clienteles, the Conseil des arts gives preference to projects with themes that promote educational programs as well as animation and popularization activities, especially among youths.
Generally, the duration of tours within the networks of exhibition centres in Montreal is approximately twelve months. The Conseil des arts establishes relationships with the centres that are equipped to feature the exhibitions.
