Description
You may already be familiar with our Grand Prix. Every year since 1985, the Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal has recognized the excellence of a Montreal artistic organization and its remarkable achievements.
Circus arts, visual arts, digital arts, film and video, dance, literature, music, theatre, and new artistic practices. Nine arts disciplines, nine finalists and one winner whose name is revealed during the annual Grand Prix luncheon. This highly anticipated ceremony, held in March, brings together over 800 representatives from the municipal, business and arts communities.
The nine finalists are selected in December by the evaluation committees; the winner is chosen from among them by an outside jury composed of four well-known Montrealers and the Chair of the Conseil. This is an important event for arts organizations. Each of them receives a $5,000 bursary generously offered by a Montreal philanthropist: Richard Bruno, Beyond If Corporation (digital arts), Pierre R. Desmarais, Fondation Pierre Desmarais-Belvédère (theatre), Jean-Pierre Desrosiers (circus arts), Maurice Forget, Fasken Martineau (visual arts), René Malo, Fondation René Malo (film and video), Peter McAuslan, McAuslan Brewery (literature), Luc Plamondon (new artistic practices), Alvin Segal C.M., Peerless Clothing (dance), and David Sela (music).
The winner receives a $25,000 bursary, as well as a work of art by a Montreal artist commissioned by the Conseil. Another great way to encourage creation!
The list of winners since 1985 provides an impressive look at the quality of our artistic organizations, which have contributed to defining the culture that permeates our city today: creative, innovative and resolutely turned towards excellence.
The participation of Radio-Canada, loyal collaborator of the Grand Prix since 1994 and official partner since 2009, allows us to produce a video on the finalists. Furthermore, the Conseil des arts de Montréal wishes to thank ARTV, also a partner in this year’s edition.
