Evaluation Committees and Advisory Committees

The Evaluation Committees are responsible for assessing the applications submitted to the Conseil’s various grant programs. Committee members are also asked to offer their opinions, in the case of multidisciplinary works, on the discipline in which they are specialized. In addition, they are responsible for preparing the shortlist for the annual Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal.

The committees are composed of three to nine artists or arts professionals selected by the Conseil on the basis of their professional experience and knowledge of artistic practices. Firmly established in their field, these members are well-versed in the realities, needs and issues of their discipline. Each of these peer-member committees is presided over by a member of the Board of Directors, who takes note of their recommendations.

To reinforce their sense of belonging, committee members are given a three-year mandate, which allows them to follow the course of the evaluated organizations, and to work towards developing the discipline as a whole. Each member must adhere to a code of ethics (french only) governing the evaluation process.

The committees examine grant applications and analyses prepared by cultural advisers. They then make funding recommendations for each organization.

The Conseil also has two Advisory Committees, whose mandate is to provide assistance and guidance in the complex fields of cultural diversity and the presentation of artistic events on the Island of Montreal.

The administration of the Conseil des arts is overseen by its Executive Director. Day-to-day operations are carried out by 20 employees.
