Cultural Exchanges

In 1983, the Communauté urbaine de Montréal (CUM) and the Conseil Régional d'Île-de-France signed a cooperative agreement to promote economic and social development with a view to improving the quality of life in both these regions.

In 1990, the two partners developed a cultural agreement which led to many original projects. Jointly backed by the Conseil des arts de la Communauté urbaine de Montréal and specialized cultural associations in Île-de-France, these activities took various forms, while promoting all areas of contemporary artistic activity.

On January 1, 2002, the CUM made way for the new Ville de Montréal, terminating the agreement. In future, the Conseil des arts de Montréal intends to continue these cultural exchanges with a larger number of municipal cultural organizations around the world.
